How to tell a friend who’s lost a baby?

I need to tell my friend we are expecting (12+1 today) but have been struggling to find the words because she lost her baby at 8 weeks in December. We aren’t super close, but close enough that I want to tell her before we announce publicly. I lost my first pregnancy a couple years ago, and now I have a 15 month old son. I know exactly how she feels but I still can’t figure out the wording. Thank you!

“I know that you are struggling and I’m so sorry, but I have to let you know we are expecting. I want to tell you before I tell everyone but I understand how ever you feel about it and I’m still here if you need to talk about anything. I also understand if this is something you don’t want to talk about”

I was on the receiving end of this news with my last baby. A week after my miscarriage both my best friend, and my SIL announced to me they were pregnant. Just be prepared to give your friend space. I think what Courtney said sounds great. My SIL never stopped talking about her pregnancy to me every single day after she announced (at 4 weeks pregnant) and I finally had to take a step back and give myself a week or two of no communication. My friend, on the other hand, never mentioned it unless I brought it up, which I tried to do periodically to make sure she understood it was okay. It's a very difficult balance between being totally devastated by your own loss and what ifs and being overjoyed for your friend's pregnancy as well. It's super considerate of you to tell them privately before announcing publicly.
