OB/GYN or Midwife for prenatal care and delivery?

Both of the offices I've been with have both midwives and doctors, they only send the high-risk patients to the OBs unless you specifically request otherwise. I prefer midwives because I just want a hands off approach unless medically necessary. Pregnancy and birth are natural processes so the less we intervene the better.

My baby died due to preterm labor that was not identified by my midwives. As a first time mom I didn’t know what was going on but I trusted them when they said my symptoms were not concerning over the phone and that I didn’t need to go in and get checked unless I really felt it was necessary. I now have an amazing OB who encouraged me to call at any hour of the night if I have any concerns and takes plenty of time during appointments. So grateful.
I always planned to give birth at hone, at a birth center, etc. but now I think there is always a chance of something going wrong and your baby is better off with a nicu readily available.

Obgyn for me. I picked one of the best in my state, and he’s the top 3 in my city. He is Duke & Maryland Univ. educated, 25 years experience and his reviews/ratings are ALL positive. Due to previous circumstances, I couldn’t in good conscience go with any thing less. He always delivers his patients regardless if he’s the one on call that night or not (unless he’s out of town of course). Medically, I just needed the best of the best this time around, to make sure my baby & I are in the safest hands possible. 37 weeks now.🤞🏼

Midwife, because an OB is more medical, where a midwife is more holistic. I don’t need nor want multiple ultrasounds or intervention.  Just the basics, track the baby’s growth, hear the heartbeat and be there when she’s ready.

My midwives are super easy going and so easy to talk to. This is my third babe and third time going with them. They follow every medical form of advice and are extremely knowledgeable. 
I’ve had hospital births and epidurals too. I love that midwives come to your home for care 2-4-6 days after birth to check on you and baby too. Maybe its different other places? I’m on Ontario Canada.

Here midwives are the standard, you are followed by one throughout your pregnancy and get whomever is working the day baby wants to come. Regardless of being Hugh risk or not. Obgyns only deliver breech babies, multiples, if there's a medical emergency, or you need a C-section.

I used obgyn with both my pregnancies. I’m now leaning towards midwife as I’m really interested in how they do work here. I’m also delivering in a whole different environment. So I’ll be seeing if they have midwives where I live

I have a small practice in my town that has 2 OBs and a midwife. I personally prefer the midwife. I like her personality way better and her ideology. The doctors seem to push inductions and c sections more so. Where as the midwife is more natural and let it happen UNLESS there is complications. If I had complicated pregnancies, I’d probably go with one of the doctors.

Midwife. I had two amazing midwives for my first pregnancy and birth and they were AMAZING!!
Literally would show up for my appointment, see them right away and get a full hour of their time as they checked me and discussed the stage I was at. The birth was so calm and laid back. They were always available by text and when my baby had some complications post birth they spent so much time with me and consulting other doctors.
This time I don’t have any other options except an OB and I hate it. I drive half an hour for my appointment, wait another half an hour to see the doctor and I kid you not he spends less than ten mins with me. Not feeling super supported this time :/ I’ve had to call and leave a message about concerns a couple times and they take days to get back to me. It’s frustrating

OB/Gyn. First of all, I picked the best OB I possibly could surgically, who is also a fabulous and caring person. I’d not like to be rushed into whatever person is available to do a c-section at the time, if that’s what it comes to. Also, I have a sibling that almost died in childbirth. He seemed healthy beforehand and it was completely unexpected. He was saved by the doctors and spent a while in the NICU. He would have not made it under a midwife’s care. I prefer to plan for the worst and hope for the best.
