Mommy and me swim lessons?

Have any of you ever done mommy and me swim lessons? I’m looking at doing some at my local YMCA and it sounds so fun and a good opportunity for my 11 month old. He loves baths and is such a water baby so I thought it’d be a fun activity. Just curious what your experience was and what did you put baby in? Like a swim diaper and a water shirt?

Get a reusable swim diaper. iPlay makes the best ones that I’ve found. It should fit snugly, but not too tight. Make sure to go by weight to find the correct size, not just age. They don’t need to wear any other diaper with it, though some pools may require a cover over it.
The swimsuit is up to you, though it is usually easiest to do a rash guard/swim shirt with the reusable swim diaper. The shirt will also help them stay marginally warmer.
As for the swimming, don’t be surprised if loving the bathtub does not translate to loving the pool. At least not right away. Many babies and toddlers are overwhelmed by the swimming pool experience for a few weeks (locker rooms, big echoey space, lots of other kids, strange teacher, cold after the lesson, etc.) until they get used to the routine. 
Hopefully they love it! Lots of babies do, but don’t give up if they don’t at first. It can take a while for them to adjust. It’s better in the long run to just keep going and find the sweet spot of skills that challenge them without making them too uncomfortable. For some babies that may mean just learning to be happy in the pool with mom during a class, for others it means learning to glide a few feet underwater.

I started my son when he was 4 months.  They had him wear two reusable swim diapers.  He liked it at first but was not a fan of going underwater. We did it for about a year.  He will just In water and go under on his own, I think he just didn’t like being forced to do it. He was honestly the only kid that didn’t like it.  The other babies loved going

We did it starting when our son was 5 months at a swim school. It was really fun. I think it was a 6 week cycle. They kept the water very warm, like a bath, so he was very comfortable and loved to splash around. He also liked all the songs and got comfortable putting his head underwater. We switched to a place closer to home, and were very disappointed. The instructor just told us to basically hold him and encourage him to kick from one walk to the other, that was it. There were no fun activities. Maybe see if you can watch a class for a few minutes to see what to expect.
