When does the whining stop.

Question

My son literally whines over EVERYTHING he’s 19 months and it doesn’t matter what he’s doing he just does it. I try asking him what he wants or what’s wrong and obviously try to see for myself what the issue is but it’s literally nothing! He just does it. Is there a way to stop this?! It drives me insane. I know he’s a child but for some reason the sound like pierces through my ears. I can deal with his crying and fits but lord the whining drives me mad.

I think my mom says it lasts till like 18+ or when they’re out of the house. 😂😭 In all seriousness, I have no idea. My son is a few days shy of 19 months and I’m dealing with the same thing. I can’t imagine it gets better anytime soon, though.

A lot of it at that age is because they know what they want but their communication skills just aren't there yet. Be patient, use your words, valifate their feelings explain, explain why you can't do whatever and offer an explanation why more than just no because I said so. This helps develop their language and also teaches them a valuable way to handle themselves and their feelings. It may take a little time but this is what I've done with my kids and others kids and you would be shocked at the difference

Yes. My daughter will currently whinge for “Wiggles.” So I will pop on an episode or the movie. The problem is there is an option of 2 movies and 2 different series on netflix. She will cry and whinge no matter which i put on that its the wrong one. I will try them all and she will still cry its wrong.

Normal. Of they aren't using full sentences or words to tell you what they want or need they whine, scream, hit, blah blah blah
Try engaging with him/ playing. Talk to him about what your doing. Like cooking.  
Putting away laundry- have him help you.

Good luck!y son will be 2 in April but he wasn't much of a whiner than a "I'm going to scream until I get attention" lol good luck. Hopefully it stops after 18 years old lolol

I know exactly what you’re talking about, and dear god that sound got me too. I found when I started talking and engaging him in everything it got much much less. 
When he plays, I will narrate his play. When we cook, he sits on the counter and I talk through everything like a cooking show. When he’s walking around, I will say a rhyme or sing a song with him. I’m not completely sure why he did this, maybe just didn’t like silence or was uncomfortable when there was no sound??
Anyways, he’s going to be 2 next month and hardly does it anymore, the bonus is that his vocabulary is top notch 😅
