No period after miscarriage

Hi ladies! On December 25 I had a miscarriage (9 weeks pregnant) and well I have yet to get a period. Has this happened to anyone that goes almost two months without one? Does your period go off due to hormones or anyone know what might be happening? We checked hcg levels and they're in the now negatives. We were told to start trying our next cycle, but has yet to come down. Feeling very hopeless.
