Am I overthinking it?

So a male friend texted me out of the blue after 3 years. At 1am...
I'm married now and we (guy who texted) haven't seen or heard from eachother in over 3 years. We went to college together (same class), last he (friend) saw me he knew I was in a serious relationship (we're married now).
I would respond if he texted me at a reasonable time. It's nice to catch up with old friends. But 1am has to be something else. Am I overthinking it?
I won't respond just curious. Is it normal for a friend who you haven't seen in a while text you out of the blue at 1am?!

I'd maybe wait until a reasonable hour to respond and say something like "Sorry, didn't get your text until now, my husband and I have to get to bed early for work. What's up?" Keep it casual while still affirming that you are in a relationship

well it depends there could be several reasons, his working hours, he was drinking, etc Also what did the text actually say.....but I do think you are over thinking it

A guy friend did that to me a while back. Popped up on a video chat in the middle of the night wanting to discuss the specifics of his upcoming circumcision. He's married with a young son, I'm married, and we hadn't talked in years. I blocked him.

If the roles were reversed and this was your husband how would you feel if a woman was texting him at 1am (first off) and (second) how would you feel to know that he responded regardless of the time? 
I’ve always like to go by ( I would never do something i don’t want my partner to do). 
If you are even taking the time to make this post and question if you should respond or not...... then you probably shouldn’t. 
Your intentions might be pure and you want to catch up but for him to text at that crazy time, it doesn’t seem like his intentions are the same.

Maybe he is overseas and is unaware of the time difference. I do this quite often.
