OPKs/Breastfeeding/Getting ready for TTC

Bear with me: Before having my son (8/20) I used OPKs to track O. I had a short LP (late ovulation, day 21 and period would come 8/9 days later = causing chemicals). My OPKs these cycles were always darker lines (I assume due to my hormone issue). Now, I started using the OPKs daily again to begin tracking O since I’m breastfeeding/no period yet and not ready to conceive but not on BC (again/bc of my hormone issues) so want to be safe and skip days O is approaching. The lines now are basically non-existent, which makes sense since I am exclusively breast feeding my 6m old but I’m curious, is it more normal to have tests that are practically invisible and then once O approaches they darken—>peak? Or were my tests pre-pregnancy more “normal” aka always had a pretty dark line (not positive until O came but def darker and sometimes hard to tell if it was a positive or negative). Thanks for the feedback in advance xx 💋
