What do contractions really feel like???

So I’m 38 weeks today, FTM, I’ve been having Braxton Hicks daily for maybe 6 weeks. Last night I rolled over and felt my belly go really hard like BH but with added pressure and pain, more than the typical discomfort. I thought maybe I had a full bladder or something so I went to the bathroom. The pain continued until I’d been laying back down another minute or two. An hour later, the same thing but it subsided faster. It doesn’t sound like labor to me but at the time I thought it might be an early contraction. I have no idea what to expect. How would you describe the feeling of a contraction?
