Cleaning gums?

I have a 6 1/2 month old 
She has no teeth but do you guys clean your babies gums? I have a baby tooth paste but I read it and it says for gums also...never did this. Should I be doing this?

I never did this. I just started brushing when mine got teeth. He is just now going to his first dentist appointment at age 3 because we only have one pediatric dentist in town.

Use a damp rag

All I did was a damp cloth across the gums, that's all my dentist suggested until she got teeth

I didn't start brushing until she had actual teeth. My dentist said there's no reason too unless baby is falling asleep with a bottle
