Boyfriend constantly ungrateful for food

I want to preface this by saying, if I don't make dinner he won't make himself food, he'll eat cereal or another snack.

I adore mushrooms, but he doesn't. So when I made sloppy joes today, I sat a single mushroom ontop, uncut so it couldn't mix in, so that it could cook from the steam.

He came into the kitchen, saw a singular mushroom, and told me I have to separate my portion of meat if I want to sit a mushroom on top. Cue him whining that he'll taste it.

Do I really have to do that? Or is he a jerk?
