OB said “exercise is overrated”

Yvonne

Hello!

I had my first scan a couple days back when I was 5w4d. So happy to see my lil blip and hear it’s heartbeat.

That said, as a first time mom, my partner and I had ALOT of questions for my OB. And I asked if it’s okay to keep doing what I’ve been doing pre-pregnancy. I hit the weights/HIIT least 3x a week.

He told me exercising during pregnancy is so overrated. And walking will be enough exercise. If I like, I could use light weights for arm workouts, otherwise I don’t actually need any exercise.

I’m still kinda weird out by his reply. I’ve know and read that it’s fine to continue doing what you’ve been doing. He said “you want the baby to stick, so too much movements may compromise that, walking is good enough.”

Should I seek a 2nd opinion? I kinda miss having a good workout. But I also don’t wanna jeopardize my pregnancy. Could it also be because of my age? I’m 36 and considered “high risk”.
