Baby Shower in 2 weeks... No baby shower gifts yet?

Question

I am having a baby shower in 2 weeks, no one has bought anything on my registry and one person gave a monetary gift. I don't see any point of this virtual baby shower if I have to buy all my baby's things. I'm okay with buying what I need, but I just don't see the point. I'm only doing it because my grandma who is sickly asked. What would be your solution to this? Just no gift opening?? 🤦🏿‍♀️🤷🏿‍♀️

Most people don't even bother to buy things off of the baby registry.

I am advertising my baby shower lol. Not just for gifts but so that way my family is still reminded another person is coming and to not forget 😂. I created a Facebook page for when my video call will be and I just put on there here’s my registry if you’d like to purchase a gift please do so soon so we can open the gift together on the video call. That’s when my family started buying gifts and asking what I needed off the registry so I told them to get wipes or something we would use. I’m not saying to beg people to buy gifts but just remind them and be like hey just wondering if your gonna join my zoom call etc something that dsnt seem like your forcing them to buy something. I JUST went through something similar. I would’ve had my virtual shower last weekend, but NO ONE bought anything. I sent it out to like 25-30ish family members total between my boyfriend and myself. During our gender reveal, my mom and little sister got wipes, diapers, a diaper bag, and bottles. My big sister gave a $100 gift, my boyfriend’s cousin gave a $200 gift, and my grandfather gave a $200 gift. Other than that, nothing. It made me feel bad, because I’m that one family member who is always supportive and give gifts. It really sucks lol. Like you said, I don’t mind buying all of my baby’s things, but dang!

I’ve noticed that half the time people may look at the registry then go in store to buy it if it’s available in store or tend to buy something very similar to what you had on it. No one bought anything from my registry with my son so I figured I wasn’t going to have a nice shower but he ended up spoiled and I only needed to cover a few items.

I think people have a harder time planning for the virtual shower. Even if they know it’ll take a while for things to arrive, “it’s two weeks away!” still feels like lots of time. I know a lot of people in my fam are procrastinators on things like this! I would hold your event but don’t plan on opening gifts, and expect some gifts to arrive after the fact!

I cancelled my virtual and opted for an in person brunch with 5 of my best girlfriends at a nearby restaurant that has a covered patio. 
I had baby #2 last year so for this baby I won’t need much anyhow. Just the usual pampers wipes and girly outfits as baby #2 is a girl. BuyBuyBaby has a huge sale last week so i got the car seat and double stroller myself. 
While a baby shower is for people to celebrate your new baby it shouldn’t be expected that folks will buy all that you ask for or anything for that matter. Sad but true.
If you can afford to get the necessities then by all means buy it. Don’t wait for folks to help. This is a tough time for many people due to the pandemic and some people just don’t have it to give. Plus this whole idea of virtual is new to the older generation. 
You could send out birth announcements and sometimes folks will respond with a gift or two if you I could registry info on it. Just an idea. 
I would suggest that if you want to have something that’s more in person you could do a sip and see provided it’s safer a few months from now and baby has had first set of vaccines.

I’m having two. My mom & sister are having one for my side of the family and friends, March 6. it will be outside and masks will be optional. The second one is going to be a drive by/drop by shower, March 13. That’s what my mother in laws wanted to do for me for his side. I really do wish things were different. With my first pregnancy I had two showers too and got sooooo many things! For some reason I feel like I won’t get as much this time and I’ll have to buy everything myself.. which it’s fine..

That’s our plan.  We’re doing a virtual shower this weekend and just going to catch up with people and play some games.  A few things from the registry were purchased but not much but it’s our 2nd so I don’t expect people to buy things.
