Is it normal...?

Question

To not be able to trust your toddler/older child around your baby for fear they may harm them on purpose? 
My 2.5 year old is so sneaky and when someone isn’t looking he will find a way to hurt his brother. He will pinch him or bite him. So when I have to leave the room to pee or something I have to take one of them with me always. He also constantly breaks the baby’s things or throws them in the dog’s water bowl. He laughs in my face when I tell him it’s not nice or that I’m upset. Even getting angry he doesn’t seem to care and just laughs at me. 
He does express love and affection on his own terms but my friend joked I’m raising a little sociopath and now I’m worried.

That seems like a bit too much hostility. Like a little jealousy is normal, but that’s a bit more. My oldest was not quite 3 when my youngest was born & there was an adjustment period for a couple weeks but he would never harm the baby. It was more like he wanted extra attention. He acted out & had a lot of aggression but it wasn’t to something specific. I reached out to my dr & they directed us to other professionals that helped us & showed us how we can get the behaviour under control. Maybe you should reach out to his dr.

So thankfully I have a 5-year-old but at the beginning she was pinching her sister. I thought age she was old enough for me to sit down and ask her why she was doing what she was doing. she felt like I didn't love her anymore regardless on how much extra attention I gave her her sister always needed attention whenever she seemed to want it. So she would sneak over and pinch her when I was out of the room. Thankfully after a couple talks about it she started to stop. Now she just wakes her up the second she's asleep.

All toddlers are sociopaths, some more than others ;)
Good advice already given here. Don’t give attention to bad behavior, spend special time with the child... if it’s going nowhere,seek a professional to help. It’s just to help learn good techniques, the pros have a lot of good advice.

This is normal behaviour, he’s just jealous that he’s not your number one anymore. Try and give more care and attention to the older one x

It does seem a little excessive. Do you give him special attention that's just for him? Kids can get jealous of new babies. Sounds like he's working to get a reaction from you. That's attention even if it's negative. He might feel like baby takes too much of you away. Maybe talk about that. Would he be interested in doing task with you to care for the baby like handing you wipes when you change the diaper, or bringing you a burp cloth? It could help if he feels included. It's tough to split between two kiddos. I'll soon be in the same boat. They recommend giving the older as much positive attention as possible, even if that means occasionally letting the baby cry for a minute before running over. Could also speak to a child psychologist just in case.

My daughter turned 3 yesterday and I don’t fully trust her with the baby by herself (I know she’d never intentionally hurt him though.)

My son is 6 and I won't leave him alone with the baby unless he is in his jumper because it's not his responsibility and my oldest likes to jump around and runs around and play with the kitten so he is not always paying attention to where he is going and there have been times with supervision he has almost ran his brother over and accidentally hit him with a toy playing. To be honest I don't want him to feel bad if he were to accidentally hurt his brother.

If day it’s normal but very close to excessive. Not only is he clearly jealous, he’s in those trying twos. Make sure your giving him at least 10-15 min of one-on-one time and maybe get him a dolls to be gentle with and maybe try to slowly involve him with feedings and diaper changes.

I think it’s normal to not trust your 2.5 with a baby but my older kids never gave me reason not to it was just instinct telling me that it’s not safe and shouldn’t be trusted.
