I Fired My Ob at 15 weeks 2 days

Allison

I have been going to my (now former) practice for over 4 years and they delivered my son. I like about 1/3 of the doctors on staff and outright dislike and avoid another 1/3.

The kicker was when their billing department started hounding me for a “deposit,” which I think is their way of skirting a law against Balance Billing in my state. They were demanding almost $4k UPFRONT, due by May for them to “hold,” when I’m not due to deliver until August. We have excellent insurance, and could manage this bill if we had to, but I’m livid for all the expectant mothers who probably could NOT.

I recall this happening with my last pregnancy, but being so overwhelmed with first time pregnancy and my dying father, my husband and I just shrugged and assumed it was normal. IT IS NOT.

I dug a little deeper into the medical group to find their Executive Director’s only medical experience is in ultrasound/CT scan radiology? And no executive experience? And she’s running a whole ObGyn practice of 12 practitioners? Something isn’t right.

So I am not taking it sitting down. I found a new practice and requested my medical records from my old one. When I have records in hand, I will be informing them that I’m out of the practice and will be trying to find a way to warn other mothers of their bullsh*t billing practices.

Moral of the story: don’t make a mama to be mad. 😅
