Baby face up or face down?

Question

My OB always tells me the baby is head down but never says if he’s face up or face down. Isn’t it kinda important to know if he’s sunny side up? Or will he rotate in the birth canal anyway?

All babies are different. Mine tend to spin constantly. Depending on your own anatomy, it can be easy for you to determine baby’s position without your OB. if you’re seeing/feeling kicks out front, they’re likely sunny side up (posterior). If kicks are high and far to the side then baby is likely facing your spine (anterior). Babies can also turn up until labor and in labor. Both of mine have been CONSTANT spinners which is super frustrating as my daughter got herself into a bad position that then caused a 68 hour labor and c-section and I’m praying this one stays in a better spot. I spend a good chunk of my day trying to get them to the right spot just for them to turn again. I’m extremely conscious of how I’m sitting, not leaning back, etc and for whatever reason my kids don’t seem to care. I still try my best to give them every reason to be where they need to be though.

Mine tend to lie head down but backs along the side, they finally rotate when I'm actually in labor.

Some turn, some don’t. I can tell mine is what’s called Left Occiput Transverse. I feel her butt high on my left side with all the kicks on my right side. Usually when my babies engage, they turn and have their backs in the front right in the middle and feet toward my spine.
