Month and a half late + spotting

Hi, does anyone know why I could be spotting? Had terrible cramps yesterday, put a tampon in because there was a tiny spec of blood on my underwear, and at the end of the day, there was just a teeny tiny bit of sticky mucus and a little bit of brown blood. Not even enough to fill a tampon, it was just kind of sticking to the side. I’m 40+ days late. Is it possibly pregnancy related? Ovulation related? Or is my period coming?
