Tantrums??

Anyone else’s little one having tantrums? My daughter will have a full on breakdown if she doesn’t like something or doesn’t get what she wants. Throwing things, screaming, crying, laying on the ground kicking, beating on things. I’m at a loss on who to handle those situations. It seems nothing I do makes the tantrums any better and honestly they’re getting worse.

Mine screams, cries, and drops herself to the ground. Usually for things like putting her on the ground, the dog ate one of her puffs that she threw on the ground, I didn't let her do something dangerous, etc. 🤣 The parenting experts I follow suggest validating the feeling (i.e. aww, it looks like the dog got one of your puffs and you didn't want that to happen. You must be really mad) and being there with them and patiently waiting and consoling until it's over. (If there's some element of danger you make sure everyone is okay, i.e. I won't let you hit the dog, hitting hurts.) Once everyone is calm, you can go over solutions. (i.e. you know, if you don't want the dog to get your puffs, you can keep them on the tray. You know what's better for throwing? These bean bags!) I find that the tantrum lessens pretty quickly when I validate the feeling. If I skip it or try to rush through it, it usually gets worse. Hope that might help!

My girl just had a meltdown at the park because she decided she wanted to stalk this group of teenage boys having some drinks in the grass. She walked over to them and just stood there like a few feet away, staring. At first it was cute.. But got really awkward after a few mins so I tried pulling her away like "cmon lets go to the swing" but nope.. Meltdown. Screaming, flailing, back arched.. I just grabbed her and left the park 😫 i was realllllly embarrassed and just wanted to get out. I felt like everyone was staring at us like I was kidnapping her lol. She eventually calmed down but man.. So much emotion.

Oh gosh, this thread just made me feel so much better. I cried last night at what I could be doing wrong because my little guy throws himself to the ground and will hit his head against it or just run wild screaming and hitting things. We had to get follow up blood work on Friday, and the tantrum he threw, completely embarrassed me. Screaming, hitting, back arched, alllll of it. I’ve been going with “ I’m sorry you’re upset that you can’t _____, but it’s not safe. Or I’m sorry you don’t want to take a nap, but you’ll feel a lot better if you do.” It’s not really working just yet, but it has to eventually, right?😩Glad to know I’m not alone though!!

Yes!!! But my girl just throws herself down with her back touching the ground. I get worried that she’s going to hurt her head bc if she does it in the kitchen it’s hardwood flooring! But when the tantrum starts she doesn’t care where she is or who is around her. She gets real tears and cries/screams and kicks her feet.... I try to ignore it. But it gets to the point where I’m like, are u done yet? I think this is where the disciplining really begins. No means no. And no means no for a reason. Lol the struggle is real Momma!!!
