Breastfeeding with nipple piercings

First, I am aware that I should take my piercings out before feeding. Now that that’s out of the way. I am curious to know if anyone has information on any risks of breasting with nipple rings. I talked to the lactation consultant at my hospital and they did not give me any information other than taking my piercings out and that I could develop mastitis. I would really love to breastfeed (even if not directly from my breast). I’m hoping that someone is able to give me a little more information or any experiences.
