Anyone ever marry someone with a shitty credit score?

My credit score is good and I know he’s working on his but it gives me anxiety knowing we’re going to get married and his isn’t great. Does their debt really become your debt? I feel like an idiot when it comes to this shit. If I have a good score, will my tank when we get married??? Someone please explain how this works, we want to buy a house at some point.

Yepppp. I mean, it wasn’t the worst but it wasn’t great. His credit history doesn’t become yours, but if you sign onto things with him, or merge your loans, it starts impacting you. The hardest thing is that you’re likely going to need a co-signer for big purchases if your credit isn’t enough, because he won’t qualify. Just get started working at it with him now. Pull his report and make a plan of action for correcting the damage. You’re going to both have to be around 700 to realistically qualify for a mortgage. Remember that student loans do now have a negative impact to housing purchase options, as well, if you have a lot.

Your score won’t tank. My husbands score was bad and mine was excellent. He knew he was awful with money so we came up with a plan. We each got our own debit cards. Each month our fun money goes to those cards. We have that money to spend on whatever we want. The rest of our money goes to savings or bills. We make sure we always have enough so we don’t miss a payment. I made him an “authorized user” on my card and his credit score went up like 200 points. I didn’t actually give him the card tho since he had his fun money. After he was showing some responsibility I gave him the card for gas/food/baby stuff/etc. it’s worked out well. We just refinanced our house and now he’s finally on the loan! Before his credit was too bad to be on the loan with me.

My husbands credit wasn’t the best when we started dating bc he got a new civic when he was 18, for buyers remorse & returned it & fucked his credit up. When I got pregnant, we needed a new car so I co-signed with him & now, both our credits are at excellent standing. If I had your mentality, my husband wouldn’t have married me.

My husband has significantly better credit than me. But it’s not because I’m an irresponsible person. I’ve never made a late credit or mortgage payment. I’ve never had a bill sent to collections. I’ve never even had a hospital bill on my credit. But I have several credit cards in my name and have had some various debt. I also have both my car and my husbands car on my credit, and a mortgage loan. It just takes a long time to build your credit up, but it can be destroyed very quickly. I’ve only had credit for about 4 years, so it’s still building. But a lower credit score doesn’t always equally irresponsibility.

My husband had a horrible credit score and mine was really good. We worked together and helped his go up so we could buy a house and we finally did. Now, my score isn’t great and his is. He works longer days and more side work so we can pay off my stuff so it can go up. I love him, I would never not be with him just because of his debt/credit.

Mines shitty because of my parents getting stuff in my name before I turned 18 and then because of an identity theft issue when I was finally getting it up again (also because of my damn mom because it was her friend that did it). My husband has great credit and it hasn't affected his at all being married to me. And we can still pay our debts separately. Despite his credit being better, he has WAY more debt than me
