Crib Bumpers unsafe?

Question

My mom bought me an adorable chevron bumper a couple of weeks ago. I quickly unwrapped it and put it on the crib, but now I keep seeing stories on Facebook about how unsafe they are!!

Anyone have ideas on this? Is it maybe safe to use until he starts rolling over??

I hope buybuybaby will give me a refund if I decide to return! I have the packaging but not the tags or receipt. Maybe there is a recall on these?

Our crib set came with a bumper, but we decided not to use it in the crib. Instead, we turned it into a valance and a cushion for the bench in her room because it was too cute not to use.

I actually just saw a segment on the news about how unsafe they are. They didn't say there would be a recall, but they said not to use them. I wouldn't use them.

As I understand it's the other way around. Def more unsafe if they CANT roll because they can't move their head away if against the bumper. I have a summer bassinet in my bedroom for the first 3-4 months (until she will no longer fit) so by the time the baby will start using the crib on their own it might not matter. But either way I opted for no bumpers.

You can still return to buy buy baby if they are opened.  Just bring back the packaging with the bumpers and they'll give you a store credit :)

The breathable ones are supposed to be used once they start rolling and moving more. So if baby is gonna sleep in there from right off the bat you should be ok, but once baby starts moving i would change it. We started with a breathable one just because she probably won't be sleeping in her crib until she is a bit older.

They did a story on the news about the safety (unsafety) of bumpers yesterday. I used them with my older kids with no issue, but I won't be this time. With my daughter, I tucked them more between the mattress and the crib, so you could still see them (they were cute), but they wouldn't affect her.

I used them with both of mine. SIDS is the worry factor. I've talked with nurses that have said they are fine as long as you house has good circulation of air.

Maybe you could use them as a teething rail cover for your crib? Just make sure if you do that, there's enough space between the pad and mattress. Might be a better alternative so you don't have to return it.
