Advice to get 2.5yr old to fall asleep by himself?

My son is 2.5 yrs old. I have to lay down with him every night until he falls asleep, usually around 20-30mins. I don't really mind it but I'm pregnant again and I don't think it's going to be always possible to do that with a newborn.  Any advice?

Have him pick a teddy or something and tell him that's going to be his bedtime buddy or something,  make a big deal about it. When bedtime comes get him excited about it,  dress it, brush it's teeth whatever you have to do to get him excited. Get him to create a bond with it. I put a lullaby and have a ceiling project in my son's room as well every night he picks a teddy 🧸.
