Sharing info on social media (Read Description)
If you were incapacitated (either from an accident or some sudden medical condition) would you be ok with someone posting personal information and/or status updates on Facebook? I’ve seen this happen several times and never thought much of it until recently. Most of the time it is people asking for prayers/some kind of religious reason for posting, but recently I’ve had a few thoughts:
~ Some of these updates appear on my timeline for people I don’t know at ALL. I can see them because the person posting has tagged a whole bunch of people (including someone I’m friends with) and I can therefore see the post they were tagged in. Why do I need to see all this personal information about the medical condition of someone I’ve never met nor will ever meet? Would I want random people to see that if it were me?
~ If this happened to me, would I really want the whole world to know exactly what was going on and have people feel like they’ve been on some sort of journey/shared experience with me when I recover?
I understand sharing information with family and close friends, and I think that should always happen (for me anyway) but the idea of having any sort of medical information on Facebook or anywhere else is just kind of strange to me. Just curious to see if this is something that you guys find odd, and if you would be upset if somebody did this with your information only for you to find out about it upon recovery? Or would you want somebody to do that, and why? Do you think it’s totally normal? Weird but harmless? Or are there any other potential issues you could see?
