Thoughts on test for Down syndrome?!?
Hi ladies, I’m 10w3d and my doctor has arranged for me to begin testing for Down syndrome next week. I’m not sure if this is encouraged or available in other countries but where I am in Australia it’s encouraged as a “standard procedure” around the 11-13 week mark to get a blood test taken and ultrasound to do measurements. Once your results come back you get a score. If your score is considered high (high chance of Down syndrome) it’s optional to to get a further test done called “chorionic villus sampling” (basically cells are taken from the placenta with a needle and used to analyze the fetal chromosome). Although the “cvs” test is extremely accurate it does come with a risk of miscarriage. Although I’m told it is a low risk. I’m thinking of getting my score first and going from there. What’s everyone else doing? Is this something available to you in your country?
