Lately at dinner DD has either been refusing to eat period or will only eat if she is sitting on my lap. I don't believe in forcing children to eat so I was at a loss.

Well we were visiting my mom over the weekend, husband and I left DD with my mom one night. DD tried it with her, pushing her plate away "all done". She tried to get up and go play. My mom told her she did not have to eat but she had to sit at the table till Grandma was done.

Worked like a charm, DD ate 3/4 of her food while waiting for grandma to be done.

We have continued this rule, we all must stay at the table till everyone is done, she had eaten most of her dinner every night since.
