Icsi more chance of birth defects??

Question

I had ivf with icsi due to male factor Infertility. My husband is 33 and I'm 32. Should I be worried about birth defects? I went in for my 12 weeks ultrasound and test where they check for down syndrom ect. And the doctor said everything looks really good but then told us that there is more of a chance that there could be some type of abnormality because of the icsi procedure rather than just regular ivf. And there i was happy everything looked good and now I'm worried...

I’m on baby number 2 with IVF + ICSI and haven’t had any issues. Both kids are super healthy and actually have been super big. First was 8lbs 12ozs at birth and is now 3.5 and I’ll be having a csection with my second this week (predicted to be 10-11lbs). I think usually as long as there’s nothing crazy going on at the early scans then you’re pretty safe in regards to birth defects etc

Looking at my very healthy IVF + ICSI baby right now. ICSI is included for our fertility clinic and possible defects was never mentioned to us past the standard heart stuff. 
We were even told even with IVF, because we were otherwise low risk, the DS screening was optimal.

I haven’t heard that. I’ve been told there’s increased risk of heart defects with IVF in general

That doesn’t sound right to me at all and I did IVF w ICSI. I believe I’ve heard in general there can be more heart issues with IVF. Only thing I’ve heard about ICSI potentially increasing is embryos splitting l, albeit small.

Ivf also has an increased chance of issues, in general. We screened out embryos with PGT to avoid many of those, which obviously dropped the chances of our baby having said issues a ton. With ICSI, you could be using a sperm and egg that normally wouldn’t make it and you’re puncturing the side with a needle to inject, so of course there’s a risk. Not one I’d be concerned with!

I’ve never heard that. I’m sorry the doctor had to scare you like that 😔 I have 3 ICSI babies and pregnant with the 4th. Daughter born at 39 weeks 7lb 3 oz no issues. Twins born at 38 weeks both over 6 pounds. None of them have medical issues that we know of (they are 6 and 3). My understanding was as far as ICSI, our embryologist picked the very best sperm to inject into the egg. We had male factor.  Good luck to you and wish you a great rest of the pregnancy! ❤️
