Weed & Breastfeeding ?

Long story short. My husband bought edibles without letting me know what it was & that it had weed. He left it on the counter I took a small bite of the brownie. An hour later I started feeling the effects. I haven’t smoke / eaten edibles since I found out I was pregnant with my daughter ( Nov 2019 ) My daughter is exclusively breastfed. Around 3:30am she woke up to eat I had no other choice but to feed her. That was 5 hours after I had eaten the brownie. Will everything be ok ? She seems fine right now. But I’m just extremely paranoid.

You said that you had a small amount, so the amount your baby is getting is pretty much none. Someone else mentioned that thc is in breastmilk for up to 6 days, and while that’s true, it’s such a tiney tiny amount that as long as your not using regularly I wouldn’t worry.

I would think one time wouldn’t hurt but regular use shows adverse effects in preliminary studies.  He should definitely get used to putting that stuff away though

If it was a small amount and 5 hrs after, then it should be fine. Think of it as a medication. If you weren't feeling affects 5 hrs later or even barely at all, it shouldn't be in the breastmilk.

There hasn’t been much research done on this for obvious reasons. What is known is that marijuana is very fat soluble and the minimum amount of time that it could be detected in breast milk is 6 days. The best course of action is to give baby formula or frozen breast milk if available until the 6 days has passed. In that time the milk you produce should be discarded or used for other purposes, such as a milk bath. Mistakes happen, but definitely ask your husband to keep his stash clearly marked in the future.

Baby is fine! Very little gets to the baby through breast milk, any potential issues would really only happen with regular or heavy use (and even then there’s really not a lot of research on the subject yet).
