Contraception?

Question

My parents are really strict about me having sex since I’m 16 and I’m not sure who to talk to but I’m incredibly paranoid about getting pregnant. Are there and ways to ease those paranoias and what’s the best contraception that’s not too expensive and I can keep hidden from my parents?

If you're going to be mature enough for sex, you're mature enough to ask for birth control or whatever it is you need, period.

Your doctor cant say anything to anyone about your visits. You should be able to get a prescription from them for birth control. Condoms are a good option  too but obviously theres the risk of someone finding them. Choosing 2 methods of birth control can be great and the pill and condoms is a common choice. You definitely dont need more than 2 though

My boyfriend and I have been having sex for about 3 years now and I still get nervous and paranoid from it. But you need to read up on how you get pregnant and stuff like that so you can be as safe as possible which can ease a lot of the worries. Knowing that you are safe and protected can give you a price of mind.

If you’re paranoid I would suggest having a talk with yourself— you probably really aren’t ready for such a huge commitment (sex is a commitment: emotionally and physically)

So you have a family planning clinic where you live? If so, you can go to them and they usually have a sliding scale for low income.

Just a word of advice... you have every right to explore your sexuality at any age, but as someone who is married and has had sex before, it's not as amazing as the media portrays. It's something that takes practice and you can have bad sex and good sex with your partner depending on how turned on you are and how much energy and experience you have. What I'm trying to say is, don't feel pressure to rush into anything sexual just because you want to experience sex. It's okay to wait until you are older and feel more prepared.  I didn't have sex until I was 25 and so I wasn't scared to fall pregnant before I was ready. You can absolutely go to a family planning clinic and discuss your birth control options with a doctor. I encourage you to do so. But abstinence is the only 100% assurance that you won't get pregnant.
Also, if you go on any sort of birth control, make sure that you research the side effects for the one that you are given. Some people have bad reactions to the pills. I know I did and so I had to switch to a different method.

I would definitely look into a planned parenthood or the health department. Both usually give out free condoms, which is a good first step. They can also help you with birth control. There's a lot of different methods just be aware that hormone based ones do have side effects. Most people do well on the pill & it usually just makes you feel pregnant the first month. You do have to make sure you take it at the same time every day & take it every day. Never feel pressured to have sex or do any sexual acts that make you feel uncomfortable & get to know any new partners before sex. You also need to have a pap smear annually & regularly get tested for STDs/STIs. Birth control doesn't protect from these, which is why you want to still use condoms. Don't be afraid to ask partners to get tested before sex. There is always a chance of pregnancy even with contraceptive, it just makes it a lot harder. Plan B is an option if a condom breaks & your worried, but it should ONLY be used as an emergency & I think is only supposed to be used twice a year.
