Weird cravings- Not food related (Pica)
Okay...... So this is super weird, but also pretty funny so I had to share with y’all. We all know about odd pregnancy cravings but this is some seriously strange stuff 😂
Pica is the abnormal craving of non-food items. It’s pretty rare and most commonly seen in children.. a lot of times it can develop from your body lacking certain vitamins/minerals. There are studies that show anemia is the most common mineral deficiency to cause it.
Now, obviously I’m NOT going to give into this strange craving..... but evidently my body thinks it’s a fantastic idea to eat Johnson’s Baby Shampoo. I think it’s linked to the smell?
After looking up the ingredients and the chemical compounds/formulas to each of them, I’ve realized it’s most likely iodine that I’m lacking. Which makes sense because I’m “allergic” to it and I try to avoid consuming it except by salt. Unless I’ve gotten confused, a few of the fragrance notes and other ingredients are linked with iodine one way or another.
Here’s your chemistry lesson and wtf moment of the day in one.
