Taking Progesterone

I haven't had my period in 2 months and still getting negative pregnancy tests. My doctor wants me to take progesterone to try and kick start my cycle to being regular again. There still hasn't been a blood test to check for pregnancy. I've been doing some research but I'm wondering if anyone else has been prescribed progesterone while they were trying to conceive?
