Appropriate?

When you ask a skinny middle aged man, what size is he so you can find him the right clothing size and he responds “ 4XL for my pants” while laughing sarcastically. When I got confused and said what, he said he s a large.

Is this appropriate? Should he be reported?

Edit: he needed to change clothes to my work’s uniform. He was a contractor. Report him to my HR and his supervisor. Never had a discussion to that nature before.
