What would you do if your MIL kept telling people about your pregnancy?

So I'm 5 weeks 4 days pregnant and obviously so excited. I told my parents and sister practically hours after we found out because they are the most secretive people ever and haven't told a soul. We told my MIL on Monday, at 5 weeks because stupidly, thought she wouldn't tell anyone. She's told her 3 other kids, her fiance, her sister, her mum, her sisters partner and children (and their partners), her colleagues, her friends, etc etc. I only wanted parents to know and my sister purely because my family is literally just me, my parents and sister. So I couldn't tell either of them without telling the other. However, my partners family is massive and it's too early to tell everyone. And also, it's our news to tell, not hers. Especially as it is our first baby. What would you do?

I would tell her from here on out you won’t be informing of her important news until you’re ready to announce publicly since she can’t keep her mouth shut. You can either be blunt or more polite but sometimes you have to be blunt to get your point across.

Well unfortunately too late now. But I’d tell her that since she told people after she was told not to, she will be left out of any future news until it’s announced and she can find out with everyone else.

If you specifically told her to keep it to herself, but she told people anyway, then she has lost the privilege of knowing anything else that you want to keep a secret. If you want to keep the babies name a secret? Then she doesn’t get to know. Etc. she’s shown that she can’t be trusted with a secret so that’s the consequences 🤷🏻‍♀️

So now you know she can't be trusted. She doesn't get  to know any details before anyone else.. No gender, no names, not when you go into labour...

This happened to me with my first too. I told my mom to keep it a secret and she told basically everyone in the family, I was livid. I told her how I felt. I told her it was extremely selfish, and it wasn’t her news to tell. Obviously she can’t take it back once people know, but you can at least lay out why it’s wrong.

My in-laws didn’t do this for my pregnancy but they did my birth announcement. I had literally just had my baby, I’m sitting in the hospital, and start getting texts saying congrats on the baby. I was so frustrated because it was my news and they didn’t even ask. This time we aren’t telling anyone when I go to the hospital and probably won’t tell anyone until we are discharged.

UPDATE: Confronted her because she text me saying she had told a few more people. I said it really nicely but a bit firm just to be like we told our parents and that is IT! We don't want anyone else to know so it's not fair that, that power has been taken away from us when we told you not to tell anyone. She claims that she is not in the wrong and now won't talk to me and is texting my partner telling me that she's upset because of what I said etc.

Did you tell her explicitly that you don’t want her to tell anyone? We’re you planning to tell all these people by yourself? If answers to both these are “no” then I don’t see the problem. Grandparents has a unique way of expressing themselves and feel a part of it. I personally didn’t tell anyone I am pregnant except two people but family got to know through my parents and my husband’s parents.
