Baby shower for second baby

My first born will turn 5 a month after my second is born. I’m unsure of the gender of baby number 2. I have the infant car seat but that’s about all I saved from my first born. My mom was thinking of throwing us a gender reveal/diaper party instead of a full baby shower. My mother in law thinks I should have a full baby shower. Just would like to get opinions from mommies of more than one child. What did you do? And I know traditionally there’s just one baby shower for the couple but where I’m from some moms have a baby shower for all pregnancies.
