When did you start to give your infant cereal?

My son is only 7 weeks and 6 days old & my godmother insists that I need to give him cereal 🥣 if I want to get any sleep! She also claims she has cereal and applesauce waiting for when he comes over, so I decided he wouldn’t be able to go there anytime soon... I thought you had to wait till the baby got a little older and was told you can’t sleep train until 4 months which is when I was deciding to include cereal in his diet. Thoughts? 💭

Please please do not listen to her!
It’s extremely unsafe to give babies cereal that early and it doesn’t actually help them sleep!
It’s a choking hazard and has no nutritional value at that age!
It’s recommended to wait until 6 months, but some are ready as early as 4 months.

Your godmother is incorrect, that is incredibly outdated info and proven to be incorrect. Good pediatricians don’t recommend it except in very, very specific circumstances.  Your infant does not need cereal. Solids are appropriate at 6 months or older.

WTF IS WITH BOOMERS AND THIS SHIT? It is our date information. Rice cereal has NO nutritional value whatsoever. 6m+ for solids and I would try FOOD, purées, or baby oatmeal. Skip the rice cereal altogether. 
I’d your baby has reflux, it’s best to consult the pediatrician because there are formulas meant for spit up and reflux. Not rice cereal.

Thank you ladies, I keep trying to tell her but she claims I’m just listening to other people lol. Let’s just say she’ll be getting my child when he’s a bit older because she’s not going to listen to me and I don’t want my baby on that yet.

No cereal makes baby sleep more. That is an old myth that has no proof.
Sleep is developemental. And baby cereal is reccomendation in severe cases of reflux, but not sleeplessness.

I think they just say cereal makes them sleep better because their belly is more full? Idk  but either way I DID NOT give my baby cereal ever. If you plan to i would wait until at least 6 months as most other people have said

That’s a very old fashioned school of thought and has been proven to not make a difference with sleep.
Doctors recommend starting cereal around 4-6 months but many modern moms skip it entirely and go straight to either baby food or baby led weaning around 6 months.
We tried cereal and he had an allergic reaction it. I was so worried but our doc just said to stop giving it and keep on with bottles until he began expressing an interest in what we were eating (opening his mouth like a baby bird when someone holding him was eating their food)

My daughter gets oatmeal a little before 4 month old. Her pediatric said to gives her a spoon with breast milk to help her sleep longer at night plus she said my daughter was ready for it. By 4m old, I mixed 6 oz breast milk with 2 tablespoon. 
Best to check with your pediatric.
