Laura is here!
Laura Michelle born on 5/8/2021 at 7:17pm, 7lb 6oz, 21in. (Can’t add photo into post, ugh. Will try as a comment!)
I had my regular doctor appointment on Friday. My blood pressure was to the roof so she send me to the hospital. Next thing I know I was being admitted for induction!
The labor was LONG. Got the pictocin and faley bulb at 7pm on Friday. Contractions kicked in but they were manageable. By the next day morning hrs I went from 1cm to 6cm. Next my waters were broke. After that my contractions went crazy! I was able to survive without any pain meds for 2 hrs but by 12pm was crying for epidural. I was so exhausted. Epidural allowed me to relax, sleep and I progressed to 9cm for the next few hrs. But I developed fever right before pushing.
The actual pushing was VERY HARD! Like holly sh*t, this is not easy! Laura’s head was stuck in my pelvic bone. I was able to feel her top of head with my hand. There were 2 doctors trying to stretch my privets to help her come thru. There was a lot of hands down there... like in every. hole. possible. Finally at 7:17p the love of my life was born.
Due to my fever and her head swelling Bc of my annoyingly narrow pelvic bone, Laura was taken to NICU. I was only able to hold her for a second after delivery. Since I had to be cleared from the epidural I wasn’t able to go see her until next morning. But my husband was hanging out with her.
The NICU experience is hard. I was crying a River when I saw my baby in the incubator. But Laura was quickly progressing and passing small milestones. Next day she graduated to regular bassinet but had to stay in NICU. The nurses there were angels. We learned so much how to take care of her! I was able to see NICU lactation consultant and she helped so much with latching. I feel like I wouldn’t be able to get the same attention if she wouldn’t be in NICU.
Yesterday we finally were discharged. The head swelling is way less, she doesn’t have headaches anymore but we are still dealing with jaundice. Having follow up appointments with neurosurgeon next week that saw her in the hospital but he assured us she can still go to Harvard, lol.
So far all we do is sleep, poop and change diapers, breastfeed, supplement with formula, pump, and so on around the clock ❤️❤️
