I would say 2-3 months. At least in my experience. We room shared with our son but he was in his own crib from the first night home. He knew his crib meant bedtime from an early age. He knew if we were downstairs in a certain chair it was time for a bottle.

Around 3 months, that's when I stopped bringing my son into bed. I didn't want to deal with breaking that habit with him.

Babies pick up on patterns in my experience as early as 2-3 months. 
My son easily was recognizing when I sat in a certain chair it was nursing time.

What do you mean by pattern? Like sleep pattern or the pattern of the more they cry the more likely you will bring them into your bed?

For certain things, I’d say even before 4mos. There’s a certain chair I feed my daughter in. She’s 4 months old and I’d say for at least a month, she gets a little fussy and looking for her bottle once I sit in the chair with her. I’d also say that she knows her bedtime routine pretty well at this point. Patterns are really easily established when it comes to basic needs.
