Still have my ex husband’s last name?

Question

I’ve had my ex husband’s last name for the past 16 years, we’ve been divorced for 10 years. I still kept his surname when we divorced because we share two children together who are now teenagers. I am remarried to a wonderful man who I have been with for 7 years and married for 2 years, my ex husband has also remarried.
I still have my ex husband’s surname though. It’s a lot of legal work to change to my new married name..getting new social security card, driver license, cards, professional changes etc. Also, this has been my name for most of my adult life. It’s my identity. It’s who people know me by and it’s the name my children have also.
My husband and I are trying for our own baby right now and hope to be pregnant soon. Is it weird to still have my ex husband’s last name being married to my second husband who I am starting a family with? My current husband hasn’t said much about it so maybe it’s not that big of a deal?

It's really not that hard to change it. I'm surprised your husband hasn't said anything about it.

Yea personally,  I'd change it to my new married name. I understand that it's been your name for your adult life. But names can be changed and it's not too much of a hassle. Yea its a process. But I'd change it out of respect for your new husband. My aunt went through the same thing. She kept her married named for a while after divorce. But finally changed it back to her maiden name. People adapt easily. Just takes a bit of reminding people. But yea, I'd ditch the exes name once and for all now that you've long since moved on. And if you don't want to take your husband's name, then go back to maiden at least

I think it’s weird. I’d change my name back to my maiden name and not take the new husband’s name.

My boyfriend got married when he was 18 and was divorced by 22 and his ex wife still has his last name and he is 40 now. I think it's the strangest thing in the world.

For me it would be weird. I had a friend who kept her ex husbands name for years too. Just not my thing.

I get why you wanted the same last name as your kids. But it’s not hard to change, once you go to social security and the rmv, it’s easy. 
I personally would have changed it when I got remarried. But since your new husband hasn’t said anything maybe just say I am going to change it when the new baby arrives or consider hyphenating with your new husbands surname first then your ex’s

Now that I have changed my name once, I am set on it being my name forever. It’s so much fucking work to change it that isn’t worth it. I finally got around to changing mine a year ago and I still haven’t done everything because I just have no desire to sit in hold with each credit card company for hours to do a simple change. I did my insurance and bank. They are one and the same, and that’s all I had patience for outside of the RMV. I wouldn’t put myself through it again.

My mom kept my dads name only until we all graduated high school, she got married and changed it ASAP.

I didn’t change from my maiden name to my married name for 2 yrs. I only did it bc my husband was adopting my oldest daughter and we all needed the same name for adoption to go through easier. My husband was upset that I never changed it to begin with. He only said it once but I knew he didn’t like that I never changed it. I understand wanting to have same name as your kids but not when your remarried and trying to have a baby w someone else.  I think that is weird.
