I just started a new job and I'm trying to figure out what amount I should put into 401K. my monthly salary is $5,000 
company contributes 7%. should I also do the same? any input would be helpful as I'm new to this. how much do y'all contribute?

As much as you can. I personally only do 3% because I’m a government employee and they contribute the majority. If I was private service, I’d try for at least 5%.

Minimum the match but ideally you wanna get the maximum 401k benefit which is 19.5k. I personally do 20% but once I hit 19.5k they money goes back to my account because IRS won’t let you contribute over 19.5k.

At the bare minimum, contribute what your company will match. But do as much as you can afford. It maxes out at 19,500/year, so more than that would go back into your check.
