Conflicting dr advice rant 😩
So I have a high risk pregnancy and see both and OB and mfm, currently 23w. My last preemie was born early due to a placental abruption, which happened after my body had a severe immune reaction to the pregnancy and attacked my placenta.
I was supposed to see my mfm last week but she had a family emergency so they rescheduled me with a different one. My original mfm is out for an extended leave now and they wouldn’t give me any idea for how long, so I don’t know if I’ll be working with this new one all the way to the end or not, but I don’t like him much.
The hardest part though is that I have 3 doctors now telling me different things

OB: cut back on breastfeeding session lengths but you don’t need to stop
Mfm a: no need to stop breastfeeding at all because it doesn’t contribute to preterm labor, I’ve read countless studies about it and none have proven a link between preterm labor and breastfeeding. Especially if the preterm labor was autoimmune related
Mfm b: you need to immediately stop breastfeeding

OB: you don’t need progesterone treatment for preterm labor because yours wasn’t progesterone related, but some evidence shows it prevents placental abruption so let’s try 200mg a day and see if that works
Mfm a: why are you on so little progesterone? Let’s do 400mg a day at least. Better safe than sorry
Mfm b: progesterone isn’t going to do anything to help prevent preterm labor in your case, so we should eliminate that — I told him it calms down my irritable uterus tons and he told me that was a placebo effect

OB: I don’t see any reason to put you on physical restrictions, physical activity won’t cause an immune reaction, cervical incompetence is when you need to restrict activity and your cervix is longer than average, nothing to worry about right now
Mfm a: I want you on light duty, no strenuous exercise or outdoor work. Better safe than sorry
Mfm b: I want you on strict pelvic rest now and full bedrest starting at 30 weeks. You’re less likely to abrupt if you’re still
