First time mom how do I start potty training??

My daughter is 17 months old and I’m pregnant again so I was hoping to get her potty trained by the time she is 2 how would I start?

Encourage it but if she’s not ready then she’s just not ready. AND from experience, she will maybe regress when baby is here anyways. So I personally wouldn’t even stress it. That’s why I went with a big age gap this time. My son was 2 when I got pregnant, at 2.5 he was getting the hang of it but 4 months later he saw baby and wanted his diaper changed too.

Set alarms for consistent/predictable potty breaks throughout the day. The first step in a Montessori preschool is to start changing wet diapers while they are standing. Just lift one leg a bit to wipe them and help them put on their pull-up. The idea is to help them develop independence in the bathroom. They are no longer a baby who lies on a changing mat. After the soiled diaper is discarded and before the new one is put on, invite them to sit on the potty. When they are ready they will agree and do it. You can also model pee first and ask if they want to go next. It can often be easier in a daycare setting because they see the others using the toilet and want to go next. Letting them do each step (sit, pee, wipe, flush, pull up underpants, wash hands) whether they do it well or not and celebrate each time with positive energy. Good luck!

I dont have a girl but i trained my three boys at 2. I hear girls are easier 🤷🏻‍♀️ just start taking her every hour or so.

Kids will often give you signs when they are ready to start trying. For example my daughter would take her diaper off when it was dirty or get upset that she was in a dirty diaper (pee or poop) and let me know. That’s how I gauged when to go ahead and start. We tried pull-ups at first and she seemed to use them as a diaper and not like them so then we tried the naked method and it worked best. She showed signs around two to start training and was accident free closer to 2.5y/o. Good luck, just remember every kid is different and she will get there when she’s ready!
