Teacher moms! Stay teaching, or quit now?

Hi ladies. I am 8 weeks 1 day. I know it is still early to make this decision, but I am hoping for some advice on the subject.

I’ve been teaching for 5 years at a Catholic school (no tenure). I do love it there - the small classroom sizes, my coworkers, and my boss is amazing.

I’ve decided I’m going to be a stay at home mom. This is my first child. I don’t make enough money to justify teaching and paying for childcare. I’m lucky enough where my husband can work to support all of us.

I’m due Jan. 23rd. Here is where I am stuck. Should I teach for half the year, or should I just quit now and not return this year? My only reason for staying is because I love my job and I love the kids.

Last year was horrible. I know this year will be a bit different, but we are still considering it a COVID school year. Majority of my area that I teach in is not vaccinated and I already know we will make masks optional. I personally am vaccinated, but I’m still worried about it. I mainly just don’t want to deal with the stress of the job while I’m pregnant. So many after school PDs are mandatory this year since we didn’t do much this previous year. I know other teachers before me have done it and I know I probably could too. But the fact of that I don’t HAVE to have this job is really making me think about not returning at all…

Sorry this is so long. Just needed to hear what other teachers thought about this.

Thank you ladies.
