I think it’s a flawed theory built on ego. For the first year of my relationship I thought I was the settler. Most people looking into our relationship would think so too. Let me tell you, this man is amazing and I do not deserve him.

There are people who settle, certainly. That doesn't necessarily make them better than their partner, it just means they ended up with someone not quite right for them and settled down without trying to find a better match. 
The concept is a bit demeaning though. People sometimes aren't right for each other, or they aren't treated the way they deserve. It's more complex than just settling or batting out of your league 
That episode of HIMYM always made me mad because I had the biggest crush on Marshall and no way was he the settler lol

That’s a pretty crappy theory. I’ve had a male coworker call me a settler at work. At the time I was with my fiancé for about five or six months, so I was confused as hell why he felt the need to even say that. Like it had only been a few months, and to me that was too quick to decide if I wanted a future with him. 
Any guy that I didn’t see in my future got broken up with from four days to two weeks.

I’m sure there is occasionally, but not every relationship. I think in every relationship, you teach other things. I don’t think one always settles while one always reaches. How demeaning.
