Emergency Day Care?

FTM here! When I return from maternity leave my baby will stay home with me and my nanny (I’ll work from home) but what options are there for me when my nanny calls out sick or goes on vacation? I don’t want to enroll my baby in a daycare only to have them go once every few weeks or months. So new to this. Any parents in the same boat? What do you do? My LO will be 8 months when I go back to work.

You have to take off work. I mean, if my daycare has a staff training or one of them is sick, I have to take the day off. If that’s not an option, you’ll probably just ha e to start making a list of people you can call for back up.

Thank you guys! I am lucky to be able to wfh most days and I do have a really understanding boss, I just wasn’t sure if there was such thing as secondary care, kind of silly.

It's a combination of things. These apply to us because we have no family close by, but we have the advantage to live close to my husband's job and he has some flexibility to come home for a couple of hours if needed. 
So here is what has worked for us: 1. I have a roster. A list of people I have vetted and who can fill in with notice. This works well in the case of vacation-time. It can also work sometimes for short notice situations. 2. If I am given a short notice that she will not be able to make it I either re-arrange my work schedule and place my meetings on another day and do the majority of the work (writing, answering emails at night) or I ask my husband to help me out. He is the Head of his office so he can rearrange his schedule last minute and take some time off and he comes and stays with our girl. 3. In an emergency, so basically no notice, I will simply inform on the situation and take the day off or take the meeting or work with her next to me. It has happened a couple of times that it was not possible/I was not allowed/did not even have time to inform that I had to take the day off, but by a miracle my girl was quiet and I could finish my work and meetings.

You miss work or ask family to help. There isn’t really an option for emergency daycare unfortunately.

My daughter is in daycare and if it’s closed I just take the day off. There isn’t a lot of choice. My friend who has a nanny does the same thing.

You take the day off or talk to your boss about working only when babe is sleeping that day. 
I have a SAHM friend in the neighborhood that is kind of on standby for us but even she isn’t always available if our nanny calls off.

Backup nannys(: you can have a couple on call and use them for date nights too.

You watch your baby. Its just how it is unless you find a backup "on call" person. Id be very careful who you hire.. im a nanny and have been for over 5 1/2 years. This is my job and how I pay for my home.. now if you get a 16 year old who needs mall money and gas for their car they will call out whenever they want too.. just some advice

I use the app Nextdoor. I post an ad for a babysitter all is flexible to drop in as needed. I interviewed about 10 different people from my block and picked 3 that I use every once in a while and for emergencies. It works great for me!
