Sex/period talk

I have never tried this but I’m wondering how could it work. So my boyfriend is leaving to drive trucks tomorrow morning in Alabama. I can’t go I have small children. Plus I just started working last week. We both want each other in a sexual way. Luckily my period would come on today. If I use a tampon could I have anal sex? How would that work? Will the tampon go further in me?
