Acid reflux - silent reflux baby

Kayla

Alright mamas with babies that have reflux/silent reflux. I need some advice on what worked for your LO/what you’d suggest …

We did a swallow test and confirmed she is refluxing (they told me pretty high up.. obviously since we get spit up?) sometimes we get spit up, other times we don’t - we can hear it in her throat and hear her swallow it back down DAILY. Multiple times.. Sometimes she cries in pain after it happens, other times she doesn’t. The episodes of painful crying usually happen in the evenings (but she sleeps just fine at night even if she’s just had/recently had an episode) sometimes in the afternoons.. and those don’t even happen daily - seems like every other day or every 2 or3 days.

We were prescribed omeperzole - and were told we could try hypoallergenic formula - we were told to try one thing at a time..

Before we saw GI we tried nutramigen- she took when we were mixing bottles - once we made the full switch she didn’t eat as much and fought taking the bottle. (We did with allimentem as well- she took to that full bottle much better) however, we noticed significantly more spit up with the mixed bottles / full bottle of hypoallergenic than with her regular formula (similac pro total comfort) on regular formula we noticed regular amount of spit up.. not with every bottle and not necessarily daily.. so we moved her back to regular to see how she handled it.

- REFLUX EPISODES WERE THE SAME ON REGULAR FORMULA AND MIXED BOTTLES-

However , we were not on full bottles of allimentem very long - Hubby and I were noticed all the spit up on it and moved her back to regular to see if it was same amount or not …. We’ve also noticed baby acne? We were told it COULD be a sign of milk allergy, but not necessarily. It never looks bad , just sometimes more noticeable

We are unsure if we should go ahead on the allimentem for 1-2 weeks , even with more spit up, to see if it eventually reduces in amount / reduces her painful crying episodes / reduces silent reflux in general… or if we should just go ahead with the medicine and stay on regular formula for now… (unless we need to change due to an allergy) we would love to avoid meds if we can…

Did meds work/ not work for your Lo.

Did formula switches work/not work?

Or did a mix of both work for your LO?

How did you determine possible milk intolerance/allergy?

Thank you in advance & so sorry this post was so long!
