Wth just happened?

My son had ended up running off with his friends and when I found him they were playing a gun! I ran up to my son and started yelling at him and he says "Sorry my mom is hear and really mad and I'm now grounded for a month and can't hand out with you guys!" I never even said that... One of his friends started saying something and he said "Don't say anything else or she'll make it 2!" The he whispers to me for us to get out of here. When we got home I started to yell but he said "I understand I am grounded. Here is my phone. I will be in my room". Did my child just ground himself?
Tbh I think he may have not wanted to he there which us why he told them he couldn't see them for a month and was in such a hurry to get out of that situation.

Did you really just gloss over your child playing with a gun and rip on into a feel good story about how he grounded himself? I wish I could go with my initial reaction of unbelievable, but actually it's totally believable.

Sorry but regardless of if he wanted out of the situation or knew he was in shit he doesnt get to choose rhe punishment!  Where did they get a gun!?  If i ever found one of my kids with a gun i dont care what was going on i would be bringing my kid down to the local police station to have a very serious conversation with the police and my daughter would be telling them where they found a gun!!! I know from personal experience when a friend of mine was out when he was 15 with two other guys, one pulled out a gun they all thought cool its empty lets play around. Except it wasnt empty!  My friend shot his best friend in the face!!! At 15 years old!  Imagine if thats what happened to your kid!  My family doesnt play when it comes to gun safety! Its dealt with harshly

Find out where that gun came from and report it to the police. Those kids should not be able to get ahold of it and are in danger thinking thats ok

See I would have marched up and taken the gun away and called the cops to deal with a gun and the owners who left it where kids could play with it. I could never have left knowing those kids could injure themselves or someone else playing with the gun when I could have done something about it.

Yelling and punishing him should not be your main concern right now. Why did they have a gun? This could be even more concerning depending on where you live. Why did he want to get out of the situation so bad? Ask him what was up, let him know he can talk to you and try to get answers. If there’s a safety concern and he can do something now that’s so important to prevent something.
