Condom problems

My boyfriend and i have been having sex regularly but we always use the pull out method. I've been told that the pull out method does not work sometimes so we decided to try using condoms (first time) and he was having a hard time putting it on as his penis would get soft(after putting it on) . And he would not feel the sensation from my vagina? So what do you guys suggest we should do?
