BC and sex?

I was on JUNEL FE 1 MG-20 for about a year and a half and was getting bad headaches during my period. So my doctor suggested we try only taking the placebo week every 3 months. But I started to break through bleeding by the second month. So we switched it to only taking the placebo week every two months and I ended up break through bleeding again. So we changed the dosage of the pill to FE 1.5 MG-30 MCG. But she didn’t tell me if my body will need time to adjust. The reason I’m asking is because I usually have unprotected sex when I’m on BC, and allow my bf to finish in me. But if my body needs time to adjust, then I would use a back up plan.
