This is the room which is the best canidate for a nursery. My wife tells me once she concieves shell have the motivation she needs to "make space"

I completely  understand  this! My husband is such a hoarder and he gets it from his grandfather. Before agreeing to try to conceive I told him there's no way I'd bring a baby into this house with all his crap (most of it is work stuff so it's metal or tools) I've had to live like this for 2 years. Everytime  I made it better he would make it worse. He wants a baby so bad so he's starting on actually cleaning this trash up. You could make it work if it were just organized and not thrown everywhere as I keep telling him. We stupidly bought a small place for our first house but if a baby is that important  that you prove it by cleaning up. Unless he was making an effort I was not agreeing so I'd say she would have to start on getting rid of stuff before I'd commit. You don't want to wait last minute then have your baby in it.

That's an OCD issue. You should really have her see a professional. It's not about her not loving you or wanting a baby. There's a deep emotional/mental issue. Be supportive and stand your ground. Your safety is important too. First mean you can't have a baby just means you need to get her well too

I think if she really wanted a baby she should make it safe for the baby to live there

​But yea maybe cleaning up the house before you get pregnant is a good idea

That is a safety and health hazard, not to mention a fire risk. I'd say no baby until she starts so work on it. Has she thought about some therapy, there's usually underlying causes to hoarding (like a super painfull loss, or a major trauma.

I agree with the majority of the other ladies. She should be making the effort now since it's also a safety hazard for the baby and her being pregnant. Fix it first then bring a baby into your family.

Shawna is right.. and the fact that you're evening asking means you know it's not the best idea. She needs help to deal with whatever issue caused her to board then she should consider having a child.
