How to ask for a raise??

I have a review for my job coming up so I know we will talking about my salary. I want to ask for a higher amount than he said in the past. I can’t support myself on the current salary anymore so I need something higher or I’ll have to find a new job. Advice, tips?? The average for the job I do is $20 I’m currently making $13

Obviously depends on you what you do but you can do a search for you current position online & see what the salary range is for it. Then you will have a better idea of what to ask for.
Also, you should prepare some key examples of items you’ve improved or taken over at your job.

It partially depends on how long you’ve been there. But, it doesn’t hurt to ask! 
Come up with a mental list of the things you do around the place that would constitute a raise. And present to your boss and lay it out. :)

Have you reviewed yourself yet? My job we fill out a survey of sorts on ourselves, then I was advised to write a list of things I did that was above and beyond. Now I keep this continuously. Say I’m reviewing myself in September, I would schedule a meeting with my boss in June/July and discuss why I think I deserve a raise. Early to discuss because by the time you have your review it’s already known how much $$ can be distributed.
