Men having to have approval from wives to donate sperm

I was watching an episode of the bbt, and one of the episodes talked about how Lenard was asked to donate his sperm to a friend(ish) so the couple could have a baby. The episode goes back and forth between Lenard and his wife Penny on if he should or shouldn’t. He is ok with it and even wants to, while Penny doesn’t want it. In the end Lenard doesn’t do it because he doesn’t want to make Penny unhappy. The scene then moves to Sheldon being asked if he could do it, and his wife immediately says no, and Sheldon says “I’m sorry, my wife says no”. Meanwhile the whole episode Sheldon mentioned how he’d be willing.

This episode rubbed me the wrong way because it’s just a situation of people not having a say in what they do with their own bodies. In that they need “permission from their spouse” before making these decisions.
